Write to your local leader to pass a Motion for Change
Women’s Aid welcome Labour’s commitment to halve Violence Against Women and Girls (VAWG) in the next decade. However, this bold ambition cannot be realised by national government alone – we need action from local leaders to turn the tide on VAWG in our communities.
That’s why we have developed a ‘Motion for Change: Together Against Violence Towards Women and Girls’. We hope this motion will provide a tool to empower local authorities to address the root causes of VAWG and ensure survivors can access specialist support.
A council motion is a formal proposal presented by a council member at a council meeting for councillors to vote upon. It is used to commit a council to series of actions or principles.
We need your help to encourage councils to pass a Motion for Change and take immediate action to tackle the epidemic of male violence. We are asking you to send the motion to your local elected councillors and ask them to table the motion at council and to get their political groups to support it.
