Women’s Aid launched the #DeserveToBeHeard campaign last year to highlight the severe and long-lasting impacts of domestic abuse on the mental health of survivors and their children. Women’s Aid believes that all women should have the right to access support that they need to heal and rebuild their lives. But in reality, women face huge barriers in accessing services – from long waiting times, victim-blaming and communication barriers, to the stigmatisation of mental health, and a lack of trauma-informed responses and services – support is hugely inadequate. This campaign exists to change that.
Do you think that the mental health needs of survivors should be a priority for the Government’s upcoming Women’s Health Strategy? Write to your MP to ask them to table a question in Parliament about what the Government is doing to ensure that the mental health needs of survivors are being met.
